2017 Theme-based Research Scheme (TRS) piloting cruise

Field Survey

We conducted interdisciplinary field survey cruises in Pearl River, Pearl River Estuary, shelf waters off Hong Kong and within the Hong Kong waters in July and August 2017. These cruises aimed to reveal the status of physical, biogeochemical, sediment and pollutant dynamics and their variability in the river, estuary and shelf (RES) region surrounding Hong Kong during the hypoxia season. HKUST, XMU, HKU, CityU and PolyU all participated in the cruises which lasted for 40 days. The cruises included three segments, which covered the Pearl River Estuary (PRE), the shelf (SLF) area off Hong Kong, and Hong Kong waters (HKW). The sampling stations for the cruises in the PRE, SLF and HKW are shown below.
